A door stuck open is a security problem

An open garage is not an inconvenience to be dealt with tomorrow. In most Chandler houses the garage holds a second vehicle, tools, bicycles, the water heater and often the electrical panel, and it connects to the house through an interior door that many people never lock because the garage door was the lock.

So the first job at 11pm is not repair. It is getting the opening closed and secured so the night is not a risk, and that is something you can almost always do yourself in fifteen minutes with a phone call for guidance.

How to close and secure it tonight

Start with the emergency release cord, the red handle on the trolley. One serious caution: if a torsion spring is broken and the door is up, do not simply pull the cord and step back. With the spring gone the door is carrying its own full weight and will come down hard and fast. Get help, support the door, and lower it in stages, hands clear of the section joints.

Once it is down, lock it mechanically. Engage the slide locks if the door has them, or clamp a pair of vise grips on the vertical track just above a roller on both sides — that stops the door being lifted. Then unplug the opener so a stray remote or a neighbour’s frequency cannot try to fight the clamp. Finally, lock the interior door from the garage into the house, which is the one most people forget.

What is an emergency and what is morning work

Genuinely urgent: a door open that will not close, a vehicle trapped that you need tonight, a door off its track or hanging visibly crooked, a broken spring with the door in the raised position, and any door that has been struck by a vehicle.

Safely morning work: a remote or keypad that stopped responding, noisy or rough travel, one safety sensor blinking with the door closed, slow or hesitant operation, and a door that closes then reopens — annoying, but the opening is secure while you sleep.

The phone and the van are two different clocks

This is the part other companies blur, so here it is plainly. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by a person rather than an answering service, and a great many late-night calls end well: the opening gets secured, you understand what failed, and a slot is booked.

Technicians are dispatched Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm, closed Saturday. Both facts are true at once, and saying which is which at midnight is more useful than a 24/7 banner that quietly means a voicemail.

What is particular about Chandler

Ocotillo and Fulton Ranch carry a lot of three-car garages with heavy insulated doors, where a broken spring with the door up is a genuinely two-person lowering job rather than a casual one. Around the Price Corridor there is a high share of rentals and managed properties, and the tenant frequently cannot authorise work — worth knowing at 11pm, because the fastest path is a call to the manager while we secure the door.

Sun Lakes has a large population of openers past twenty years old, where a night failure is often a logic board that no longer exists as a part. And the alley-load and front-load garages around Downtown Chandler and Pecos Ranch mean an open door is sometimes directly on a shared lane, which moves it up the priority list.

Late-night questions from Chandler

Is somebody actually answering the phone at 2am?

Yes. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by a person who knows garage doors and can talk you through securing the opening. What happens at 2am is a conversation and a booking, not a van, because technicians are dispatched Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm.

My door is stuck open. Can I close it myself?

Usually yes. Pull the emergency release cord, lower the door by hand, then clamp vise grips on the track above a roller on both sides and unplug the opener. The exception is a broken spring with the door raised — that door is carrying its full weight and needs a second person and a slow, staged lowering.

Is a broken spring an emergency?

It depends entirely on where the door is. Broken spring with the door down is secure and can wait for a daytime slot. Broken spring with the door up is urgent, because the opening is open and the door is unsafe to move casually.

Do you charge an after-hours or emergency premium?

Our rates do not change by the hour of the call. The service call is 35 dollars and is credited into the repair, and spring replacement runs 180 to 290 dollars for the common sizes, whether you called at 9am or 9pm.

My car is trapped inside. How fast can you get here?

Within dispatch hours, a trapped vehicle goes near the front of the schedule, and in many cases we can get the car out on the first visit even when the full repair needs a part. Outside dispatch hours we will often be able to talk you through releasing the trolley and lifting the door manually.

Door open and will not close?

Call now, whatever the hour. We will get the opening secured on the phone tonight, tell you what has actually failed, and book the first slot our technicians can cover.
