Garage Door Repair in Sun City, AZ: Making the Door Easier to Use
Controls, lights and lighter doors for people who would rather not strain.
A garage door should take one press and no effort. If yours takes more than that, the fix is often small: a bigger wall button, a keypad instead of a clicker, a backup battery, or springs set so the door is light by hand. None of these need a new door.

Start with a door that is light to lift
If you ever have to lift your door by hand during an outage, it should feel light. A properly balanced door can be raised with one hand and stays where you stop it. If yours feels heavy, the springs have worn out, and the opener has been doing work it should not.
Replacing the springs restores that balance, so the door is easier on you and on the opener. A torsion spring pair is $180-$290 installed.
Controls that are easy to press
The small clicker on a key chain is fiddly with arthritic fingers. Consider a large-button wall control inside the garage, a visor remote that stays in the car, or a keypad outside the door so you do not have to carry anything. A keypad has the added benefit that a neighbor or a caregiver can be given a temporary code and nothing else.

If you are not sure what controls you have, photograph the motor head and send it to us. The label on it tells us the brand and the age, and it shows which accessories will work with it.
Light, sensors and safety
Brighter LED lights on the opener give you a well-lit garage when you pull in at night. Photo eyes at the floor should be clean and at the same height on both sides, so the door does not reverse for no reason. Since 1993, every opener sold in the United States has to reverse when it meets an obstacle, so an older unit is worth testing: place a flat board under the door and close it.
Battery backup for outages
A backup battery lets the opener run several cycles when the power goes out. If getting the car out in an outage is a concern, or the garage is your only way in, this is the single most useful add-on. If you do not have one, make sure everyone in the household knows where the red release cord is and how to use it.
When it is time to call
A door that is loud, slow or heavy is a reason to call, as is any sign of a failing spring. The service call is $35. We work Monday through Friday 7:00-20:00 and Sunday 8:00-18:00, serve the Valley since 2012 under ROC338265, and hold 5.0 stars from 49 Google reviews. We explain the options in plain terms and do not push an upgrade you do not need.
Questions people ask us
How can I make my garage door easier to open?
Make sure the springs are in balance, use a large-button wall control or a keypad, and add a backup battery for outages.
Is a keypad safer than a remote?
A keypad cannot be lost or left in a car. You can also change the code whenever someone should no longer have access.
How do I test whether my opener still reverses?
Put a flat board or a roll of paper towels under the door and close it. The door should reverse on contact.
Do I need a new opener or just new springs?
If the door is heavy to lift by hand, start with the springs. A new opener on a door out of balance fails early.
Will you explain the options before doing the work?
Yes. We tell you what is wrong, what it costs and what is optional before any repair.
