Garage Door Repair in Sun City West, AZ: When the Remote Stops but the Door Is Fine
The wall button works. The remote does nothing. Or the door travels down an inch and goes straight back up, and you are standing in the garage wondering whether this is a ten-minute fix or a service call. Most of the time you can tell which, without a ladder.
Press the wall button. If the door moves, the opener is alive and the fault is the remote, its battery or its programming. If the wall button does nothing either, check that the opener is plugged in and that the wall control light is on. If the door starts down and reverses, wipe both photo eyes and look for a blinking light. If the door is crooked, hangs open or you heard a bang, stop and call. The service call is $35 and is credited to the repair, and a torsion spring pair runs $180 to $290 installed. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Technicians are dispatched Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm.

Three minutes, standing on the garage floor
Nothing here needs a ladder, and nothing here involves the springs or cables. Those are the parts that hurt people, and they stay off the list.
First, the wall button. Press it once and watch. A door that moves tells you the opener, the motor and the door itself are all working, which narrows the problem to the remote or the signal. A door that does not move leaves the opener unpowered, locked out or faulty.
Second, the lock button on the wall control. On many openers a held-down lock or vacation button makes every remote ignore the door while the wall button keeps working. If the button is lit or blinking, press and hold it for two seconds and try the remote again.
The remote, the keypad and the wall control are three different parts
The remote runs on a small battery, usually a coin cell or a 12-volt cell, and it is the most common reason a remote goes quiet. If the small light on the remote is weak or dead, replace the battery before anything else. It costs a few dollars and takes a minute.

If a fresh battery changes nothing, the remote may have lost its pairing, or the opener’s receiver may be the weak link. A receiver problem usually shows up as every remote failing at the same time, and as a short range even when you stand in the driveway.
That last case is a repair, not a reset. A board or receiver swap is priced after the technician has tested the door and the opener, and we tell you the price before the work starts. For reference, a gear kit runs $289 and a belt-drive opener installed starts at $689.
When the door goes down and then reverses
A door that reverses on its way down is doing what it was built to do. The two small photo eyes near the floor, one on each side, tell the opener when something is in the way. If they are dirty, knocked out of line, or hit by low sun, the opener assumes the worst and sends the door back up.
Wipe each lens with a soft cloth and check that both small lights are steady. A blinking light on one side means the beam is not landing. Nudge the sensor until it goes steady. Then look at the track for anything lodged in it, such as a pebble or a bent screw.
If the sensors are steady and the track is clear and the door still reverses, stop pushing the button. Repeated tries wear the opener, and the cause may be the door’s balance, which only a lift test can show.
What a Sun City West visit looks like
It starts with the $35 service call, which is credited to the repair. The technician tests the door by hand first, because a door that is out of balance makes a healthy opener look broken.
You are shown what failed and why before anything is replaced, and the price is agreed before the work starts. The license is ROC338265, and Above All has served the Valley since 2012.
“Nate came out to our house and had our problem diagnosed within 3 minutes, he then took care of it and showed me what caused it and how to prevent it in the future. All for a super fair price.”

Where the faulty part is a spring pair, the work is $180 to $290 installed. Where the fix is a sensor, a remote or a wall control, you pay for that part and no more.
Garage door repair in Sun City West: real questions, straight answers
My remote stopped working but the wall button still opens the door. Do I need a new opener?
Usually not. Replace the remote battery first, then check that the wall control lock button is not engaged. If every remote fails at once, the opener’s receiver is the likely cause, and we test that on site before quoting anything.
Why does my door close an inch and go back up?
Almost always the photo eyes. Wipe both lenses, confirm that both lights are steady, and make sure nothing sits in the beam. If the door still reverses, it may be out of balance, and a technician should check it.
Is it safe for me to check the springs?
No. The springs and cables hold the full weight of the door under tension. Look at them from the floor if you like, but leave any adjustment to a technician. A torsion spring pair runs $180 to $290 installed.
How much does a service call cost?
$35, and it is credited to the repair if you go ahead. You hear the price for the actual work before it starts.
When can someone come out to Sun City West?
The phone is answered 24 hours a day. Technicians are dispatched Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm.
When is a new door better than repairing this one?
When panels are cracked or buckled or the door cannot hold balance. New doors start at $1,800, and insulated doors are $2,650. If a repair is the better value, we say so.
Tell us what the door is doing
Describe the sound, what the wall button does and whether the remote has lost range. A two-minute call is often enough to say whether it is a battery or a visit.
