Three warranties, and only one of them is ours

The manufacturer warranty comes from whoever built the opener. It covers the unit against defects, it is often long on the motor and short on everything else, and it is void the moment the unit is out of its term or was installed wrong. It has nothing to do with the company that repairs it.

The parts warranty covers the specific component we install — the gear kit, the board, the sensor pair. The labour warranty covers our work: if the thing we fixed fails in the way we fixed it, we come back and the return visit is not billed. Those two are the ones to ask a Gilbert contractor about, because those two are the ones they control.

The questions that actually separate companies

Ask how long the labour coverage runs and whether the return visit carries a service call charge. A warranty that covers the part but charges you $89 to come put it in is doing about half the work you think it is.

Ask whether the coverage is written on the invoice or just said out loud. Ours is printed on the estimate before you approve it, which means you are holding the terms before the work happens rather than hoping to recall the conversation six months later.

Ask what voids it. Honest answers exist: another contractor working on the same unit afterwards, damage from a vehicle strike, or a part you sourced yourself that we installed as a favour. Dishonest answers are the ones with no limits at all, because a warranty with no exclusions is usually a warranty with no document.

Why used parts are a warranty problem, not a price saving

There is a trade in pulled logic boards and salvaged motor assemblies, and in a market like the East Valley where a lot of Gilbert openers are the same handful of models from the same build years, it is easy to source one. A used board in a fifteen-year-old unit may well work. What it will not carry is a parts warranty worth anything, because nobody stands behind the second life of a component.

If a quote is dramatically below everyone else, ask directly whether the part is new and whether the warranty is written. The answer to both is usually the explanation for the price.

Where this bites in Gilbert specifically

A lot of Gilbert houses in Power Ranch, Seville and Morrison Ranch went up inside a few years of each other, which means whole streets hit the same opener failures within the same couple of seasons. We see the same gear kits and the same boards repeatedly in those subdivisions.

That is good for you in two ways. We carry those parts rather than ordering them, so the repair usually finishes on the first visit, and we know which model years were genuinely worth repairing and which ones have cost people more in repeat repairs than a replacement would have. We will say which one you are looking at rather than quoting whichever is bigger.

What coverage is worth on a twenty-year-old unit

There is a point where warranty talk stops being the useful question. If an opener is past twenty years, has already had a board and a gear, and the rail is worn, a warranted repair on the next failing part still leaves you with four other parts of the same age.

We will tell you when you are at that point. A replacement with a full manufacturer term on a new unit is sometimes the cheaper answer over three years, and sometimes it is not — it depends on what has already been done. Ask for both numbers and decide with them in front of you.

Warranty questions worth asking out loud

Does a garage door opener repair come with a warranty in Gilbert?

It should come with two: coverage on the part we install and coverage on our labour. We put both on the written estimate before you approve the work, so the terms are in your hands before the repair happens rather than after.

Will the manufacturer warranty cover my repair?

Only if the unit is still inside its term and the failure is a defect rather than wear. Most openers we see in Gilbert are fifteen to twenty-five years old, which is well outside any manufacturer coverage. At that age the only warranty that matters is the one from the company doing the work.

Do I pay a service call again if a warranted part fails?

Not with us. If the component we installed fails in the way it was meant not to, the return visit is not billed. Always ask this specifically, because a parts-only warranty plus a fresh service charge is a common way to make coverage sound better than it is.

What voids an opener repair warranty?

Another contractor opening up the same unit afterwards, physical damage such as a vehicle hitting the door, and customer-supplied parts we installed at your request. Those are the real exclusions. Anyone who tells you nothing voids it has not written one down.

Is it worth repairing an opener that is twenty years old?

Sometimes. A single stripped drive gear in an otherwise sound unit is usually worth fixing. A third failure on a unit that has already had a board and a gear usually is not. Ask for the repair price and the replacement price side by side and the answer is normally obvious.

Want the coverage in writing before you agree?

That is how we quote every Gilbert job anyway. Call and we will put the parts and labour terms on the same page as the price, with the licence number on it to look up.
