Anthem · A five-part walkaround
Garage Door Repair in Anthem, AZ: Five Parts to Photograph Before You Call
Two minutes with your phone makes the first call faster and the price clearer.
Before you call, take one photo each of a hinge, a roller, a lifting cable where it meets the drum, a bottom corner bracket and the spring. You do not need to know what you are looking at. Having the pictures lets you describe what you see, and it helps us tell you whether you are looking at a cheap fix or a spring job.

Hinges and rollers
Hinges hold the panels together and the rollers ride in the track. Look for a hinge that has cracked or pulled away from the panel, and a roller with a flat spot or a wobble. A roller that has lost its shape is why a door sounds rough on the way up.
Both are cheap parts. They are also the ones people ignore until a roller drops out of the track.
The cable and the drum
A lifting cable runs from the bottom corner bracket up to a drum at the top of the track. Photograph the cable where it wraps the drum. It should sit in the grooves, evenly. Broken strands sticking out, a cable that looks slack, or one that has jumped a groove all need a call.

The bottom corner bracket
This is where the cable is anchored to the door, and it carries more load than it looks like it should. Check for rust, a bent plate, or a bolt that has backed out. A rusted bracket can let go without much warning, and it is cheap to fix before it does.
The spring
Take a photo of the whole spring along the top of the door. A gap in the coils means it broke, and a door with a broken spring will not lift with the opener running. Do not touch it. Springs run $180 to $290 and we always replace in matched pairs when the old one is on its way out.
Anthem has many newer homes with taller doors and heavy openers. A spring that started fine can still be worn out after years of heat cycles.

Questions people ask us
What should I photograph on my garage door?
A hinge, a roller, the cable at its drum, a bottom corner bracket and the spring. Five photos cover most of what causes a repair call.
How can I tell if a garage door cable is worn?
Look for broken strands, rust, or a cable that sits loose or has jumped out of the drum groove.
Can I replace a roller myself?
Rollers in the bottom corner connect to the cable tension, so we do not recommend it. Middle rollers are easier but still near spring tension.
What does a broken spring look like?
A visible gap in the coil. The door will feel very heavy by hand and the opener cannot lift it.
Do the photos change the price?
No. They help describe the problem. You hear the price before we start work.
