Garage Door Repair in Goodyear, AZ: Costs, Causes and Quick Checks

If the door closes and then bounces back up, or the opener light blinks and nothing moves, the door may not be broken at all. A few problems repeat in Goodyear, and some of them cost nothing to fix.

Common Goodyear calls are a torsion spring at the end of its rated cycles, a door that reverses because the safety sensors are out of line, and rollers worn flat. The service call is $35 and is credited to the repair, and a torsion spring pair runs $180 to $290 installed. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Technicians are dispatched Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm.

The door that closes and then reverses

Every opener made since the early 1990s has two photo-eye sensors near the floor, one on each side of the door. If one is bumped, dusty or knocked out of line, the opener believes something is in the way, so it reverses the door and blinks. That is a frequent false alarm, and it is an adjustment, not a repair.

Here is the check. Both sensors should show a steady light. Wipe the lenses with a dry cloth, nudge the one that is not lit until it lights up, and test the door. In Goodyear the afternoon sun comes in low across the driveway, and direct sun on a sensor lens can confuse it as well. A short piece of cardboard or PVC pipe as a shade over the lens often settles it.

If both lights are steady and the door still reverses, the cause is probably a binding track or a travel setting, which is worth a call. And if a sensor is dead or a wire is cut, that is a small part. Be wary of any quote for a whole new opener that does not say what was tested first.

Spring, roller or opener: what each failure sounds like

A torsion spring that breaks makes a bang loud enough that people think something fell in the garage. Afterwards the door feels very heavy or will not lift, and you may see a gap in the coil above the door. Do not try to lift the door with the opener, and do not touch the spring.

Worn rollers are noisier but harmless at first: squealing, rattling, a grinding sound as the door travels. They are cheap parts, and replacing them early takes load off the opener and the springs. An opener that hums or clicks with a door that lifts easily by hand points to the gear, the limit settings or the logic board.

Our rule of thumb is to fix what the symptom actually points at, and to leave the rest alone.

New rollers are inexpensive parts, and they take strain off the springs and the opener.

Pebble Creek, Palm Valley and Estrella: what the age of the house tells you

Goodyear has grown in layers. Pebble Creek is an older 55+ community, and many doors there are well past their original spring life. Palm Valley and Estrella Mountain Ranch were built out mostly in the 2000s, with builder-grade doors that are now reaching the age where springs and rollers start to go.

As a rule of thumb, a door older than about 15 years that needs one major repair will need another soon. In that case ask for a repair-versus-replace opinion. We quote replacement separately so you can compare the numbers instead of guessing.

What a Goodyear repair visit looks like

The $35 service call is credited toward the repair. The technician starts with balance and the safety sensors, then moves to springs, cables, rollers, track and the opener. He explains what he found before any work starts, so you decide with the price in front of you.

A torsion spring pair is $180 to $290 installed, and a spring job is normally finished on the same visit. Sometimes the problem can be solved without a visit at all, as this customer found:

“I was having issues with my garage door after having to manually open it. The owner responded right away and he was so kind to trouble shoot the issues with me over the phone. It ended up being a quick fix and he saved me hundreds in repair costs. I will absolutely use this company for all of my garage door repairs. Highly recommend.”

Questions people actually ask

Garage door repair in Goodyear: real questions

How much does garage door repair cost in Goodyear?

The service call is $35 and it is credited to the repair. A torsion spring pair runs $180 to $290 installed. Other repairs are quoted after diagnosis and before work starts.

Why does my garage door go down and then back up?

Usually the safety sensors. Check that both sensor lights are steady, wipe the lenses and shade them from low sun. If the lights are fine and it still reverses, call and we will look at the track and the travel settings.

Can I keep using the door with a broken spring?

No. The opener is not built to lift the full weight of the door, and forcing it can burn out the motor or drop the door. Leave it closed and call.

How long does a spring replacement take?

A standard torsion spring pair usually takes about an hour on site. Heavier or custom doors can take longer, and we will tell you before we start.

Do you cover Litchfield Park, Avondale and Buckeye too?

Yes. Goodyear is in our regular service area, along with Litchfield Park, Avondale, Buckeye and Tolleson. The license is ROC338265.

Can someone talk me through it over the phone?

The phone is answered by a person 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Often the cause is a sensor, a remote battery or an opener that was disconnected, and a quick call can sort that out.
