Top-Rated Garage Door Spring Repair Companies in Sun Lakes, AZ

A star rating tells you how people felt. It does not tell you what spring went on the door.

Before you pick a spring repair company in Sun Lakes, ask for three things: the Arizona ROC licence number, the wire size and cycle rating of the spring going on, and the warranty in writing. A company that cannot answer all three on the phone is not the one to pick. Ours is ROC338265, and torsion spring replacement here runs 180 to 290 dollars.

What a rating is

What a five-star average does and does not prove

We are rated 5.0 from 49 Google reviews, and we are glad about that, but we will be straight with you about what it means. It means forty-nine people felt the visit went well. It does not mean the spring on their door was correctly sized, because almost nobody checks that afterwards.

A review is written in the first week. A spring is judged in the eighth year. Those are different timescales, and the second one is the one you are actually buying. The photo at the top of this page is our truck stock, and every cone is hand-marked with wire size and length, because that is the detail that decides whether you are back in three years or twelve.

So read the reviews, by all means. Then ask the question reviews cannot answer: what exactly is going on my door, and how long is it rated to last.

Document one

The licence number, checked in two minutes

Arizona licences contractors through the Registrar of Contractors, and the number is public. Ours is ROC338265. You can type it into the ROC site and see the status, the classification and whether there are complaints against it, without calling anyone.

This matters more here than it does in a lot of places. Sun Lakes is an age-restricted community with a median resident age in the seventies, and it attracts door-knockers accordingly. A real licence number is the cheapest filter you have.

If a company gives you a number, check it. If a company will not give you a number, you already have your answer and it cost you nothing to find out.

Document two

The spring spec, not just the word spring

Garage door springs are sized by wire diameter, inside diameter and length, and they are rated in cycles. A standard replacement is usually rated around 10,000 cycles. A higher-cycle spring, often 20,000 or more, costs modestly more and lasts proportionally longer.

One cycle is one open and one close. In a Sun Lakes household the door might run four times a day, which puts a 10,000-cycle spring somewhere around seven years. In a house with two people driving to work it can be eight or nine cycles a day and the same spring is gone in three.

That is the conversation worth having before the work, not after. We will tell you what is going on and what it is rated for, and if you want the higher-cycle option we will price both. What we will not do is write replaced spring on an invoice and leave it at that.

Document three

The warranty, in writing, with both halves

A warranty with only a parts half is not much of a warranty. If the spring is covered but the labour is not, a second visit still costs you most of a first visit. Ask whether parts and labour are both covered and for how long, and ask for it on the invoice rather than as a sentence on the doorstep.

Ask one more thing: who honours it. A warranty from a company that subcontracts the work can turn into a phone chase. We are owner-operated and have worked the Phoenix Valley since 2012, so the person who answers is connected to the person who came out.

Bonded and insured matters for the same reason. A torsion spring is under serious tension and the failure mode is not gentle. You want the company carrying that risk, not your homeowner policy.

Pricing

Why the advertised number is never the number

The very low advertised prices you see for spring repair are almost always for one spring, on a single-spring door, with no hardware. Most doors in Sun Lakes are double-car doors with two springs, and when one breaks the other is the same age and the same number of cycles from failing.

Our range is 180 to 290 dollars for torsion spring replacement, and the spread is real: it depends on door size, spring count and whether the cables, drums and bearings are still serviceable. The service call is 35 dollars and it is stated before anyone drives out.

If a price changes once a technician is standing in your driveway, that is the thing to watch for, not the number itself. Ask for the full installed figure on the phone and hold the company to it.

Sun Lakes questions

What Sun Lakes homeowners ask before choosing

Should both garage door springs be replaced when only one breaks?

On a two-spring door, yes, in nearly every case. Both springs were installed the same day and have taken the same number of cycles, so the second one is not far behind the first. Replacing both in one visit costs far less than paying a second service call a few months later.

How do I check an Arizona garage door contractor licence?

Arizona contractors are registered with the Registrar of Contractors and the licence number is public. Ask for the number, then look it up on the ROC website to see status, classification and complaint history. Our number is ROC338265. The check takes about two minutes and you do not need to speak to anyone to do it.

What is a cycle rating and why does it matter?

A cycle is one full open and close. A standard spring is usually rated near 10,000 cycles and higher-cycle springs run 20,000 or more. How long that lasts depends entirely on your household: a door used four times a day lasts roughly twice as long as the same door used eight times a day. Ask what cycle rating is going on before the work starts.

Why are advertised spring repair prices so much lower than the real cost?

Advertised prices normally cover a single spring on a single-spring door with no hardware included. Most Sun Lakes homes have double-car doors with two springs, and the cables, drums and bearings are often the same age. Ask for the full installed price over the phone instead of a starting-from figure.

Ask us the three questions

Call and ask for the licence number, the spring spec and the warranty terms before you book anything. If the answers satisfy you we will come out. If they do not, you have lost nothing but a phone call.
