The Door Is Dead And Your Car Is Behind It
It is half past nine, the remote does nothing, the wall button does nothing, and you have somewhere to be at seven tomorrow. That is the call we get most often after dark in Phoenix, and about half of them do not need a new opener at all.
Work through the list below before you call anyone. It takes about ten minutes and it either fixes the problem or tells us exactly what to bring.
Ten Minutes Of Checks Before You Call
- Power. Is the light on the motor head on? Garage outlets are often on a GFCI shared with an outside socket, so check the reset button there and the breaker panel.
- The lock button. Most wall panels have one, and a guest or a child leaning on it will disable every remote while the wall button still works.
- The safety sensors. Near the floor on both tracks. One steady amber and one steady green is correct. A blinking light means they are out of alignment or something is in the beam, and the door will refuse to close.
- Remote batteries. Both remotes dying in the same week is common. They were bought together.
- Listen. A hum with no movement is mechanical. Total silence is usually electrical.
What We Can Usually Finish The Same Night
Sensor realignment and rewiring, limit and force settings, a stripped drive gear, a failed capacitor, a snapped trolley carriage, and reprogramming remotes and keypads are all stock-on-the-truck repairs. So is a logic board on the common LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and Craftsman units.
What genuinely waits for daylight is an uncommon board on an older unit, a jackshaft wall-mount that needs ordering, and any job where the door itself is damaged rather than the opener. In those cases we will get the door operating manually and safely before we leave, so the car is not trapped overnight.
Phoenix Heat Breaks Openers In A Particular Way
An uninsulated garage here runs well past 120 degrees in July, and the motor head sits at the hottest point in the room. Capacitors dry out, logic boards fail intermittently before they fail completely, and plastic gears that would last a decade in a mild climate give up in five or six years.
The giveaway is an opener that works fine at seven in the morning and refuses in the afternoon. Dust is the other local culprit. After a monsoon blow-through the sensor lenses fog over, and a door that will not close is sometimes fixed with a microfibre cloth.
How After-Hours Dispatch Works Here
Call (480) 405-0909 and tell us the brand on the motor head, what the lights are doing and what you hear when you press the button. That is usually enough for us to load the right part before leaving.
We cover Phoenix from Deer Valley and Desert Ridge down through Arcadia, Encanto and Maryvale to Laveen and Ahwatukee Foothills. Nate has run this crew since 2012, the licence is ROC338265, and the price we quote on the phone is the price on the invoice.

Night-Time Opener Questions We Get A Lot
Who repairs garage door openers at night in Phoenix?
Above All Garage Door Service, (480) 405-0909. We take opener calls until 8pm Monday to Friday and until 6pm on Sunday, and we dispatch after-hours across Phoenix when a car or a business is shut in. Licence AZ ROC338265, bonded and insured, 5.0 stars from 49 Google reviews.
Can I get my car out if the opener is completely dead?
Usually yes. With the door fully closed, pull the red emergency release cord hanging from the trolley, then lift the door by hand from the centre. A balanced door with intact springs should feel like about ten pounds. If it feels like you are deadlifting the car itself, stop.
Is it safe to pull the release cord if a spring is broken?
No. With a broken spring there is nothing counterbalancing the weight, so disconnecting the trolley can drop a 150 to 250 pound door. If you heard a bang like a gunshot before the opener stopped working, that was the spring, not the motor. Leave the door where it is and call us.
My opener hums but the door does not move. What is that?
Almost always a stripped drive gear, which is a plastic part that gives up before the motor does. The gear kit is $289 fitted on common LiftMaster and Chamberlain units and we usually carry them, so it is a same-visit repair rather than a reason to sell you a new opener.
What does an after-hours opener call cost in Phoenix?
The service call is $35 and it comes off the repair. Parts are priced the same in the evening as at ten in the morning: gear kit $289, a belt-drive replacement opener $689 fitted with two remotes and a camera, wall-mount units from $1,350. We will give you the number before anyone drives out.
